Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi to enter ‘Bigg Boss 6’; wants to be ‘seen and heard’

Mumbai: His arrest led to nationwide fury, and now firebrand cartoonist Aseem Trivedi is all set to make his mark in the showbiz world via a reality show.

The cartoonist, whose anti-corruption cartoons led to arrest and sedition charges (which were later dropped), will feature as an inmate in the latest season of ‘Bigg Boss’.

The show, which will start from October 7, has superstar Salman Khan as its host for the third consecutive year.

The cartoonist’s father, Ashok Trivedi, confirmed the news to a daily and said that his son was taking part in the show to be “seen and heard’. “

“My son is not glamour-struck, nor does he have any inclination to be a part of the showbiz. He wanted to be on the show so that he can be seen and heard,” said Ashok.

Colors, the channel on which the show will be aired, reportedly approached Aseem right after he was released from jail.

"He will surely talk about his campaign but only if he is asked about it by other contestants. It is not that he wants to use the show as a platform to highlight his campaign, though I know he would not be able to stop himself if provoked. Aseem had time at hand and he thought the show was the best way to reach out to people. He is not doing this for money. He would rather enjoy being inside the house, which is a new experience altogether," added his father.

Aseem Trivedi, an active member of Anna’s India Against Corruption movement, was arrested on Septemeber 9 after he posted ‘objectionable’ cartoons on his website. The cartoonist was also charged of sedition, which were later dropped.

The show’s host, Salman Khan, meanwhile, has assured that this year the show will be for family audience and will include the common man as well in the show.

Sources have claimed that Hindi poet Kumar Vishwas will represent the common man in the show this year along with Aseem. Other celebrities who have been confirmed for the show include cricketer-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, ‘Gulabi gang’ leader Sampat Pal, TV actresses Urvashi Dholakia and Aksha Goradia.

Sampat landed in Mumbai on Thursday and talking to HT on telephone said, “even as the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will entertain the gossip lovers in the show, I would like to raise the issues related with women”.

“I have been fighting for the rights of the women in Bundelkhand region and my message was limited to Uttar Pradesh Sampat said and added “I was looking for bigger platform where the women across the country know about the movement launched by the Gulabi Sena, hope that the house of Big Boss would give me that opportunity”.

Gulabi gang leader Sampat Pal
“Though I will stay with the strangers in the house still I will deal with them coolly. It’s an opening to make the people feel my strength and share the experience”, she said.
The Big Boss crew visited Badausha- the native village of Sampat and remained there for 10 days to shoot the activities of Gulabi Gang and her daily chores.

In 2008 Sampat went to France and in 2009 she visited Italy to precipitate in the programme organized by the feminine organizations. Around half a dozen books and documentary have been published and prepared on her life and struggle. No doubt today the number of members of gulabi gang is 1.90 lakh and still swelling.

Sampat contested the 2012 assembly election on Congress ticket from Manikpur assembly seat. Though she lost the election yet she won the accolade of the Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi for mobilizing the poor masses to support Congress in the Bundelkhand region.

This Bundela lady has been raising voice against the atrocities on women since 1980. Sampat was married with Munni Lal Pal when she was 12 years old. “At the early age I decided that I would become self-reliant and started stitching garments for the village women and girls. I managed to save some money and purchased a sewing machine. Soon I opened a training center for the poor girls and helped them to become self-reliant. The villagers used to tease me. My husband tried to bully me but I remained unmoved and continued on the mission”, she said.

Why she raised Gulabi gang? “My neighbour Ram Milan used to beat up his wife regularly. I opposed his act and he threatened me of dire consequences. I decided to teach Ram Milan a lesson. I motivated the rural women folks and we beat up Ram Milan. Only after public apology he was allowed to go. The news spread all over the area and plea of women suppressed by their husbands started pouring in. A meeting of the women was held and we decided to constitute gulabi gang to fight for the justice of the women”, Sampat said.

Meera copies Veena Malik for Bigg Boss 6 entry

Pakistani actress Meera seems to be taking a cue or two from fellow actress Veena Malik. Meera is now romantically linking herself with ex-cricketer Shoaib Akhtar to get an entry into Bigg Boss 6.
Pakistani actress Veena Malik had earlier got an easy entry into Bigg Boss by claiming that she had secretly married her ex boyfriend and cricketer Mohammad Asif. Veena had further added that Veena Malik was involved in match-fixing in Pakistan cricket team.
Now, Meera has decided to join the bandwagon by claiming that though she split with Shoaib Akhtar after dating him for a year, the ex-cricketer is creating life hell for her by continuously making uncomfortable calls on her mobile.
However, Shoaib Akhtar dismissed Meera's claim by stating that he met her only twice and exchanged nothing more than a few pleasant glances. He denied having had any affair with Meera and accused the actress for linking his name with her for the sake of publicity.
Meera is doing everything she can to get an entry into Bigg Boss 6. Only time will tell if she'll succeed like how Veena Malik did!
